Conservatory Roofs
Solid conservatory roof replacement
A conservatory you can use in January and July. We replace failing polycarbonate and glass roofs with insulated solid roofs, and we do it without the sales pressure the category is known for.
You are not just buying a roof. You are getting a room back.
Most conservatories in this area were built with polycarbonate or glass roofs. They are unbearable in July, freezing in January, deafening in heavy rain, and as a result they end up used for storage for most of the year.
A solid insulated roof fixes the temperature, the noise and the glare in one job. The room rejoins the house, and because we are also a building company, we finish the interior properly rather than leaving you with a bare ceiling to sort out yourself.
What the job includes
- Structural check of the existing frames and base at survey
- Insulated lightweight tiled or solid roof system
- Roof windows positioned with you, not imposed
- Plastered and finished internal ceiling
- Spotlights and ventilation where wanted
- Advice on building regulations at survey
The difference
Polycarbonate vs insulated tiled roof: what really changes?
How your conservatory feels in summer, winter and rain, before and after.
Summer
-
Before: Greenhouse effect, often 30–40°C+
After: Much cooler, heat blocked from above
-
Before: Harsh glare on screens and eyes
After: Soft, even light with no overhead glare
-
Before: Too hot to use at midday
After: Comfortable all day
-
Before: Pets and plants can overheat
After: Safer for pets and plants
Winter
-
Before: Heat escapes fast, the room is freezing
After: Warm and holds heat, usable all year
-
Before: High heating bills
After: Lower running costs
-
Before: Condensation drips and mould
After: Much less condensation
-
Before: Cold draughts near the roof
After: Even, stable temperature
-
Before: Snow load on thin panels
After: Strong roof that sheds snow like a house roof
Rain
-
Before: Loud drumming noise
After: Quiet, like a normal house roof
-
Before: Ageing seals cause leaks
After: Tiles and membrane keep water out
-
Before: Moss, algae and grime build-up
After: Low maintenance, weathers naturally
-
Before: Hail is noisy and can crack panels
After: Handles hail with ease
-
Before: Small gutters overflow
After: New guttering usually included
Often adds value to your home, because the room becomes usable all year.

Questions
Common questions
Planning permission is not usually needed, but building regulations approval may be. We will tell you at survey whether it applies to your conservatory, and point you in the right direction for making the application.
Typically 5 days to 2 weeks, depending on the size of the roof and the finish specified.
It changes the light rather than removing it. Roof windows are designed into the replacement from the start, and most people find the room more comfortable to be in because the glare and the greenhouse effect are gone. We plan window positions with you at survey.
Usually, but it must be checked rather than assumed. The existing frames and base have to carry the additional load. That is part of the survey, and if the structure needs strengthening we will tell you before you commit, not afterwards.
No. There is no discount that expires this evening, no sales manager on the phone, and no second visit to close you. We survey, we quote a fixed figure, and you decide in your own time.
